Really bummed tonight
This afternoon at 2 I got the call from my surgeons nurse saying my check in time for surgery is 10:30 monday morning. At around 4 I got a call from my surgeons resident saying my iron and crit levels were really low and now my surgery is delayed and I need to call on Monday to get an appointment for an endoscopy and a colonoscopy. I was really looking forward to having surgery and starting my new life. Every time I think about it I feel like I am on an emotional rollercoaster. What are these procedures like? I could really use some input right now.

Hey Joanne...
Sorry to hear about the delay. But I am so glad you won't be going in with a low hemocrit and iron level. That would definately slow your healing! Your Endo and Colonscopy will go fine. You will be heavily sedated, and there isn't really much discomfort afterward. Sounds like they are checking for ulcers? Keep the faith. You want to be as healthy as possible before your RNY. Sending u a big hug.

Every morning in Africa , a gazelle wakes up.
It knows it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be killed.

It knows that it must run faster than the slowest gazelle, or it will starve.
It doesn't matter whether you're a lion or a gazelle
when the sun comes up you'd better be running.

How frustrating for you. But the prev poster is right on - you want to have everything going for you, being as healthy as you can going into a surgery. That way the healing WILL be so much better.
Having passed the HALF century mark, I've had a colonoscopy.
My biggest problem was that my cell phone died.
Seriously.
Because you have been sedated, my hospital required that someone pick you up. DH wanted to run errands (he is hospital-phobic). So my cell dies while I am being poked in the butt. I wake up and am ready to leave and can't call DH. We had just gottn the cell phones, so I did not know his number (hmm, still don't). Anyway, it took me a while to get released!
As far as the medical side goes, I felt a bit of poking while sedated, but nothing major.
The day before you need to do a prep to clean yourself out. In my case I had a thick, citrusy beverage I drank at intervals. I was glad that my pharmacist had advised me to take the late afternoon off from work and do this at home. I pretty much camped out in the bathroom for a few hours. More inconvenient than anything.
Best of luck in getting a speedy resolution so you can move foreward.
Edited because I am not 100 years old - just over 1/2 that - LOL!

So sorry to hear that...It is FRUSTRATING (grrr agghhhhh!!!) but you do want to be as healthy as possible pre op. Surgery really kicks 'yer butt so let them get you nice and healthy 1st. It will happen, this is just a temporary setback. I know how you feel. I had a date 3 years ago, then my (old) surgeon LEFT and dumped all his patients. I had to start over at another place..grrr. It all worked out though. It'll work out for you too, even if you feel hopeless now.
Hang in there
(PS~ lol at Patty's "poked in the butt" descriptive)
